ISSUE 09 // Patti Wagner

Many long for a keen design eye as sharp as that of Patti Wagner and her husband, a Minnesota duo who turned their fixer upper into their dream home. With a determination to keep their personal touch evident in the final design, the couple worked many post-work hours and long nights to renovate their space.

ISSUE 09 // Clover Artisans

Embarking on a seven month journey of world travel seems like a very exhilarating and thrilling experience to most. The opportunity to see the world, learn new things and fill your brain with countless memories that will stay with you for the rest of your years sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Imagine doing it alone, truly taking the time for yourself to learn not only about the world, but about who and what you want to be. With a lifelong passion for traveling, that is what Samantha Petrie did. After becoming accustomed to the typical 9-5 routine, Sam opted out for some time to explore and think about her next steps. As a result, Clover Artisans was born. A way to give a glimpse into and celebrate other cultures around the globe, Clover Artisans provides economic empowerment to the artisans behind the goods.

ISSUE 09 // Andrew Kearns

Andrew is an extremely talented photographer & vlogger on YouTube and is constantly traveling for his work. We were lucky to take a few minutes of his time while traveling to interview him for issue 09.

“The thing I love most about YouTube and vlogging is being able to document and share my life experiences and travels with others. I love the fact that I’m able to look back at all these times too and relive those experiences. I’d say the most challenging thing would definitely be documenting and sharing my life because it’s also a lot of hard work once the filming is done.”

Gratitude + Daily Mindfulness

Thanksgiving is a time that arrives each fall and serves as a reminder to stop and remember all we have to be grateful for and to put into perspective the blessings that we have been given.

As I think about this, I wonder why it is that we choose this one time of the year to really celebrate all it is that we have to be thankful for. Why is it just this time of the year that we feel the need to express gratitude? Why isn’t this appreciation for what we have been blessed with a daily practice? Why do we let the other 364 days of the year go by, complaining about insignificant annoyances when we could instead be channeling those frustrations into mindful energy that takes a second to stop and look around and think “Wow. Look at all of this! Look at what I’ve been blessed with!

Our lives are filled with an abundance of blessings that we cannot even begin to comprehend. As this Thanksgiving comes and goes, we here at Izzie + Sky are going to make more of a mindful effort to express daily gratitude. Upon waking up, think about some things that you are thankful for. Not only will your day start off on a great, positive foot, but you will be reminded of all you have, and those small, insignificant annoyances may place less of a burden on your day.

As I’m writing this, I’m cuddled up in my cozy bed, feeling nice and warm. I’ve got a delicious hot cup of coffee, a candle is burning, Ben Howard is playing, my stomach is nice and full, and my dog just nudged my door open to come in and say hello, her tail wagging. Blessings are everywhere. You just have to look.

Issue 08 Cover Artist Spotlight

We were beyond stoked when artist Shea Conlan agreed to creating our cover art for issue 08. We allow our cover artists to freely create with only a few guidelines so we were anxious to see the result! We couldn’t be happier with how the final cover came out.

Just like us, Shea is inspired by nature. “I’m entranced by the intricate, repetitive patterns of nature; it’s what attracted me to drawing in the first place,” says Shea. “There’s something so soothing in drawing the lines and grooves of nature’s patterns – something meditative. As I continue to focus on the fine details of nature, I notice more and more small patterns that repeat themselves over and over everywhere I look. It makes me feel a deep connection to the universe, and gives me faith that there is some sort of organization to the chaos.”
